REPORT ON KISII EYE HOSPITAL COMPREHENSIVE EYE CAMP HELD ON 4TH OF AUGUST 2019 AT KISII PRIMARY SCHOOL SPONSORED BY 3Z FOUNDATION NAIROBI.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Blindness has serious socio-economic consequences to the individual, family and the society in terms of opportunity costs for the care of the affected blind individual. It deprives the individual of his/her right to engage in work and other productive activities. Eliminating blindness in the region will therefore greatly contribute to the improvement of quality of lives for many of those with impaired vision, but more importantly enhance socioeconomic productivity.

Innovation Eye Centre has adopted the Social Enterprise Model which emphasizes the need to serve all people in the whole community for social inclusion and social impact in order to enhance sustainable development both within our local communities and globally as well.

Innovation Eye Centre is therefore providing “Affordable and Accessible High Quality Comprehensive Eye Care Services to All regardless of their economic ability. Through the Community Outreach Program, we get needy patients who can’t afford eye care services and give them free treatment at the hospital through some support from partners who sponsor the program.

OBJECTIVE

The main objective of the camp was to bring affordable quality eye care services and free eye care information to the community and identifying common eye problems of the community in order to develop ways of addressing the issue of affordable and accessible eye care services.

Furthermore the medical camp provided opportunities to both medical and non-medical personnel to give back to the community by way of volunteering their time, energy and expertise. We had other volunteers who are not hospital employees, who set aside their personal engagement and time to spend the Sunday to give service at the event. With the team effort, together the camp was successful.
